Kaveri Seeds, one of India’s leading agricultural companies specialising in hybrid seeds, was expanding its central storage and distribution capabilities in South India.

The Challenge

Hybrid seeds are highly sensitive to environmental conditions. To prevent premature germination and maintain viability, seeds must be stored at low relative humidity and under controlled temperatures.

Kaveri Seeds stores its products in large jumbo bags, each weighing up to 2,000 kg. The storage solution therefore needed to:

  • Accommodate heavy, non‑uniform loads
  • Support consistent airflow throughout the storage area
  • Allow easy access for periodic quality checks
  • Optimise space utilisation within the available footprint

The Solution

Constructor supplied a combination of MOVO mobile racking and CR18 static pallet racking, specifically configured to meet the project’s operational and environmental requirements.

The MOVO system was designed in a 3012N configuration, enabling the use of narrow‑aisle reach trucks and accommodating non‑standard trolleys, including allowances for bag bulging after seed filling.

To support efficient climate control and energy management, the system was configured with:

  • Optimised aisle layouts for improved airflow
  • Optional night commissioning mode
  • Integrated aisle lighting options to reduce energy consumption

The racking structure provided a stable, high‑density storage backbone, fully compatible with the controlled storage environment required for seed preservation.
